Ok, first post that makes some sense, i think…
Wtf is Web 2.0? Well read definition and after visit this site. Now really… Do we need this? Where else internet come to? It is already on our computers, as it intended to be in the first place, but it spreads like plague. You have it on consoles, tv, refrigerators, cell phones and God knows where not…

Now, in addition to this post, let me remind you to Johnny Mnemonic (yeah, another William Gibson's short story). Nerve Attenuation Syndrome – a disease that causes people to shake as if their circuits were overloaded. Could it really be possible? Could nerves can be overloaded? Well I hardly believe that my nerves were overloaded when I was 10 years old, and playing with matchbox and majorete cars. Nowadays, I saw movies of kids, playing games, and getting REALLY angry while playing them. Or very scared. So, back then, there was no reason to overload nerves. Simply go out and buy the bread and milk, instead of programing refrigerator to do that for you. Sit back and enjoy favourite show on TV, don't bother to go up and switch channel – use remote! I mean, what is the point of all that "integration" presented in Web 2.0?

Will it make pain go away? Probably not, but it will definitely make content more attractive. Now, what I don't understand is in what way?? It is already attractive as it should be. Internet is IMHO source for information, and I need that information quickly. Off course, it would look nicer if it is formatted in some way, but it still needs to be fast to get. Well, not! Try searching something that first crosses your mind. E.g. "candlestick". And what did you get: about 4,360,000 hits! Well that is informative enough, but it will take a few life spans to browse all that. I mean, this is some random item, nothing special, plain simple candlestick! What about plain and simple "sex": about 787,000,000 hits, and generated in 0.06 seconds. Google database is God knows how big, yet its there at the grasp of your click finger (its no longer called pointing finger, cause it doesn't point to anything, but clicks left mouse "ear") within blazing fast 0.06 seconds. And with Web 2.0 it will be faster? Damn, how faster will it be? Will results be shown before i even click search? Doubtfully, but it will join all current technologies into one great all knowing thingie that will make our lives easier. Ok, lets look at the "bigger" picture of how it is presented at O'Reilly seminar Web 2.0
Does it looks great or what? FYI, click on thumb to open bigger version of it, so You will see how simply that is. I mean, we are creating something ridiculously complex to make our lives easier?? Where will it end?

Well it will not be soon for sure, and Im afraid to think what Web x.0 will bring to us, poor souls…

Stay tuned it will be continued…

Nice Gibson reference… I think it’s important that the web look good, but that the right amount of emphasis is placed on information delivery and content. Google is NOT a pretty site, but it’s responses are well ordered and easy to read. And the sheer volume of the web is akin to NYC, things get so big that it subdivides itself into burroughs and eventually into self sufficient neighborhoods (e.g. Wiki’s). If web 2.0 can streamline the process of searching the various indexes of information to direct a search to a more specific venue, then the web will actually be informative. An information overload doesn’t provide accurate information with any consistency to anybody.

Hi Brett,
first I must thank you for reply, even I have no clue how did You came up here! I have opened this blog just for fun, and didnt expect anyone will stumble on it :) . Which actualy is related to my post. Anyway back to the topic… As You said, “things get so big that subdivides itself…”. If You have read Sprawl trilogy, then You must have noticed that purpouse of any self consciousness entity in matrix would like to merge with other to achieve greater enlightment(e.g. Wintermute AI). Now, why is that? More self consciousness? And it will lead to where? Ultimate entity that will controll everything that surrounds it? God??!! Not likely. Will it achieve the size of Aleph(Monalisa Overdrive). And even if it did where beyound that it will spread??? More aleph’s, more emerging, more consciousness… and upto what point? And we are coming back to Nerve Attenuation Syndrome and the cause “information overload”…
Btw, hope you can follow me, since my english is not my native language …

Wow, you’re taking me back… I haven’t read Gibson (or Sterling) since High School (10 years ago). I don’t think that the web in reality will ever reach the AI levels that Gibson foresaw. He and Sterling were visionary in a lot of ways, but technology has light years to progress before reaching the points that they wrote about. Looking at the immediate future, I do foresee the subdivision I spoke of, and a certain amount of overlapping, but self-consciousness is only acheivable in a metaphorical sense. By that I mean that the only consciousness that the net will ever have is that of it’s constituent users.
By the way, I found your blog through random wanderings on Technorati. There’s really no place to hide anymore ;-) .

Heh… I usualy every now and then read them again… Just to keep it fresh. It realy keeps me up and running esspecialy that style of writing doesnt include “im-so-perfect-main-character”… Well yes I really hope so that it will stay “controlled”… And You are right that it must be some kind of subdivision, but what Im afraid of that later on it can be much harder to find data on web. I dont know maybe Im too retro, but having all that emerging data, cross-linking, technorati, tags, trackback, digg etc. usualy comes to some confusion… Or it would be nice to have some consortium like W3C just in terms of guidelines for implementation and usage… Dont know, just my 2 cents… :)
